Talkative allows you to automatically record your video chat sessions. This guide explains how to enable recording, where the files are stored, how long they are kept, how agents can control recordings, and how to transfer recordings to your own storage system.
💡 What Gets Recorded?
When Video Chat Recording is enabled, Talkative can capture:
- Agent and customer video streams
- Audio streams
- Screenshare streams
All recordings are automatically combined into a single MP4 file after the interaction ends.
⚙️ Enabling Video Chat Recording
- Go to Settings → General → Company Configs
- Open Channel Management
- Select Video Recordings
- Set Enabled → On
Once enabled, all eligible video interactions will be recorded automatically.

Recording Retention (How Long Files Are Kept)
By default, recordings are stored indefinitely ("Never delete").
You can change the retention period using the dropdown menu, with options such as:
- 1 week
- 1 month
- 6 months
- 1 year
- Never (default)
Recordings are irreversibly deleted once they reach the configured retention time.
Allow Agent to Control Recording (Optional)
You can choose whether agents are allowed to pause or resume the recording mid-call.

Agent Controls Enabled
- When switched On, agents can pause/resume recording during the call.
- This is useful when collecting sensitive information (e.g., payment details).
- The controls appear when agents open the video options menu in the console.
If disabled, recordings run automatically from start to finish without agent intervention.
👀 Viewing & Downloading Video Recordings
After a video interaction ends, Talkative processes the recording in the background.
Processing typically takes up to 2 hours.
Once complete, the recording appears in the Interaction Logs page.
You can view or download the file directly from there.

📁 File Storage Location
By default, all video chat recordings are stored securely in the Talkative regional AWS instance associated with your account, for example: USA, UK, Australia.
These locations ensure recordings remain in-region where required by compliance or data-sovereignty rules.
🗂️ File Size Information
Recordings are saved in MP4 format.
- Typical size is approximately 3 MB per minute
- Actual size varies depending on:
- Video resolution
- Whether the session was 2-way, 1-way, or audio-only
- Screensharing usage
🔄 Exporting Recordings to Your Own Storage (S3 or Azure)
Talkative allows you to automatically transfer video recordings to your own cloud storage system.
How to configure external storage:
- Go to Settings → General → External Storage Integration
- Add your storage endpoint details (AWS S3 or Microsoft Azure)
- Choose Video Recordings as a data type to export
- Save the integration
This allows you to store recordings in your own cloud environment or connect them to other internal systems.
