WhatsApp: Adding a WhatsApp Business Account which was previously linked to another supplier

It is technically possible to connect a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) that was previously used with another solution or provider. However, we strongly recommend creating a new WhatsApp Business Account instead of reusing an existing one.

In our experience, reusing an existing WABA often introduces complexity and unexpected issues due to legacy configurations within Meta, WhatsApp or the previous provider’s infrastructure. These can include:

  • Residual webhook configurations
  • Existing Twilio or BSP (Business Solution Provider) bindings
  • Incomplete number deregistration
  • Legacy messaging templates or quality restrictions
  • Display name or business verification states tied to prior setups
  • Hidden configuration dependencies within Meta

These issues can be difficult to diagnose and may require coordination with your previous provider. In some cases, legacy technical bindings cannot be fully removed without intervention from Meta or the former BSP.

Our recommendation

Where possible, we recommend:

  • Creating a new WhatsApp Business Account under your Meta Business Portfolio
  • Registering a fresh number (or fully releasing the existing number before reuse)
  • Treating the Talkative integration as a clean implementation

This approach significantly reduces risk, shortens setup timelines, and avoids inherited technical debt.

Support limitations

If you choose to proceed with connecting a previously linked WABA, Talkative will support the standard integration steps within our platform. However:

  • We cannot guarantee successful migration of legacy configurations
  • We cannot debug issues originating from previous providers’ infrastructure
  • We cannot override or directly modify historical BSP bindings within Meta
  • Resolution may require you to engage with your former provider or Meta directly

For this reason, reusing an existing WABA should be considered an exception rather than the default approach.
