WhatsApp: What to do if your account is restricted by Meta

If your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) has been restricted, paused or disabled by Meta, this action has been taken directly by Meta under their platform policies.

Talkative does not have visibility into Meta’s internal review decisions and cannot override, expedite or reverse restrictions.

Why restrictions happen

Meta may restrict accounts for a variety of reasons, including (but not limited to):

  • Policy violations (intentional or unintentional)
  • Messaging outside of approved use cases
  • Customer complaints or quality rating issues
  • Template misuse
  • Business verification inconsistencies
  • Website or business information mismatches
  • Commerce policy conflicts

In some cases, Meta will provide limited information about the restriction. In others, they may provide little or no detail.

What Talkative can and cannot do

We can:

  • Confirm whether the restriction is coming from Meta
  • Validate that your Talkative configuration is technically correct
  • Raise a support ticket with Twilio (our WhatsApp infrastructure provider) to request review

We cannot:

  • Override Meta’s enforcement decisions
  • Expedite Meta’s internal review processes
  • Obtain detailed reasoning beyond what Meta provides
  • Guarantee reinstatement

All final decisions remain entirely at Meta’s discretion.

What you should do

  1. Review your Meta Business Manager notifications and Account Quality status.
  1. Carefully review the WhatsApp Business Policy and Commerce Policy:
  1. Validate:
      • Your approved messaging use case
      • Your customer opt-in process
      • Your website content and business details
      • Your message templates
  1. If an appeal option is available within Meta, submit it directly via their platform.

If required, contact Talkative Support and we can coordinate with Twilio to submit a support request to WhatsApp on your behalf. Please note that this is not a formal appeal process and responses may be limited.

When creating a new WABA may be the best option

In some situations, particularly where:

  • Appeals are rejected
  • No appeal option is provided
  • Restrictions persist without clear remediation guidance
  • The account has a sustained low quality rating
  • Business verification complications cannot be resolved

it may be more practical to create a new WhatsApp Business Account under your Meta Business Portfolio.

In more complex cases — especially where Business Manager-level restrictions are involved — creating a new, clean Meta Business Portfolio may be the most effective path forward.

While this approach requires reconfiguration and potentially a new phone number, it can significantly reduce time spent navigating opaque enforcement processes.

Talkative can advise on the cleanest way to implement a fresh setup if this becomes necessary.

Important

Meta operates WhatsApp as a regulated business messaging ecosystem. Enforcement decisions are often automated and may not include detailed explanations.

The most effective way to avoid restrictions is to ensure full compliance with Meta’s policies before launch and to maintain clear opt-in practices and appropriate messaging behaviour at all times.

If your account is currently restricted, resolution ultimately sits within Meta’s review processes.
