The Talkative Chat widget allows full customization of all visible text through its widget configuration. This makes it easy to tailor the language to suit your business branding, tone, or even localize it for different regions and languages. In this article, we'll walk through how to access, update, and publish changes to the language strings within your widget configuration.
How to Configure Language Strings
Step 1: Access the widget configuration
- To begin, access the chat widget settings from the left hand menu.
- Then ensure you have a draft config version available. If you don’t already have one, create a draft first. Once ready, select the widget config version you want to update.
If you manage multiple configurations, this process may need to be repeated for each one.
- From within the widget config screen, navigate to the Edit button.
- Click on the Language Strings tab.
Step 2: Edit the language strings
- The Language Strings section is organized into different parts of the chat widget. These categories are listed on the left-hand side of the screen.
Find the section relevant to your updates. Click into it and make the necessary changes. A live preview of the widget on the right-hand side of the screen will reflect your edits in real time, so you can see how they appear instantly.
If your widget doesn't use certain features, you may not need to translate every single string. Focus only on what’s relevant to your implementation.
Step 3: Save and publish your changes
- After making the desired updates, click the Save Draft button at the top of the screen. If you're working across multiple configurations, repeat this process for each one.
- When you're done, publish the updated draft(s) so the changes go live in your production environment.
